Here we present a selection of vintage gas stations in the Lansing area.
Self-serve was unheard of, these were actually service stations. These locally-owned stations offering
gasoline from American-owned companies as Gulf, Pure, Standard, Shell, Phillips 66, Sunoco, Zephyr, Mobil, Sinclair,
Texaco, and ohers.
When you pulled into a service station, you stayed in your car and the gas was promptly
pumped for you by an uniformed attendant. He would also clean the windshield, and check the tires and oil.
You could also have your car repaired, get a tune-up, have a tire fixed, or even call the station for road service.
The Lansing area was covered with hundreds of these station over the years, far too many to completely catalog here.
